MEF has been providing certification for SD-WAN technologies since 2019. In 2023, MEF transitioned to the next generation of SD-WAN certification as part of the new MEF SASE Certification program.
MEF 3.0 SD-WAN certification program continues to accelerate implementation of standardized SD-WAN technologies worldwide. The certification tests the service attributes and their behaviors defined in the MEF SD-WAN standard.
MEF’s newest generation of SD-WAN certification is based on testing a multi-node simulated enterprise network with each node having specific traffic and performance characteristics, e.g., data center, cloud, corporate office, regional office, remote office, retail outlet, etc.
The certification steps through various use cases, such as voice calls, video calls, access to files, data transfer, email, retail transaction, and access to SharePoint, Salesforce, Dropbox etc.

The SD-WAN Service Attributes and Service Framework Standard defines the externally visible behavior of SD-WAN Services. A Service deployment is based on an agreement between an SD-WAN Subscriber (the buyer) and an SD-WAN Service Provider (the seller) that includes agreement on the values of a set of SD-WAN Service Attributes defined in this document.
